Dr Ruth Stocks is a Consultant Forensic Clinical Psychologist with the Directorate of Forensic Mental Health of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, specialising in the assessment and treatment of mentally disordered offenders. She has previously held posts with the Scottish Prison Service, at the State Hospital, and at the 218 Project, a community-based service for female offenders with drug and alcohol problems.
Her work has involved setting up psychological services for offenders with drug and alcohol problems and she is the author of several group-based intervention programmes. She is currently a member of the Scottish Accreditation Panel for Offending Programmes. Previously, she sat on a Scottish Executive working group concerned with the implementation of mental health legislation and on another considering initiatives for female offenders.
She is an honorary lecturer at Glasgow Caledonian University and is routinely involved in training and supervising staff from a range of professional backgrounds in the theory and practice of violence risk assessment.
